The official, who is heading the departmental vigilance probe into the allegations of extortion, said Wankhede will be questioned further if needed.
The top NCB official said Wankhede will continue to be the investigating officer in the cruise drug bust case until substantial information is found against him.
The NCB Deputy Director General said the examination of one or two witnesses in the case is still on. He, however, refused to divulge further details while asserting the investigation into the matter is still on.
Prabhakar Sail, an independent witness in the Mumbai cruise drugs case involving Aryan Khan, had earlier alleged that Wankhede demanded Rs 25 crore to let off Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son.
Sail alleged through an affidavit that his signature was taken on a blank paper claiming it to be a statement (panchnama).
He claimed through his affidavit that he was with key witness KP Gosavi on the night the NCB raided the cruise.
He also made shocking revelations about the money transactions in his affidavit.
Sail said that he saw the man named Sam D'Souza near the NCB office for the first time with KP Gosavi. He also claimed to have shot some videos during the cruise raid, one of which features Aryan Khan talking to someone over the phone in the presence of KP Gosavi.
Sail alleged that he had heard KP Gosavi and Sam D'Souza talking about Rs 25 crore. He also heard that it was fixed at 18 crore. He claimed that Gosavi and Sam D'Souza have reportedly said about giving Rs 8 crore to Wankhede.
