New Delhi: There seems to be an internal rift among farmers' unions amid the long-going protest against three farm laws. Bharatiya Kisan Union Haryana President Gurnam Singh Chaduni's recent appeal to the farmer leaders of Punjab to contest the elections has stirred a fresh controversy.

In an exclusive conversation with ABP Sanjha, an affiliate channel of ABP News, Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that opposition did not support the farmers. It is necessary to change the system.

"If a party wins and comes to power, then what is the guarantee that it will repeal all the three agricultural laws and guarantee the law on MMSP," Gurnam Singh said.

He further assured that they will not take a step back from the on-going protest against the farm laws. He said that the organisation will give maximum participation in the program that the United Kisan Morcha will decide regarding the demonstration.

"Today the whole of Punjab is looking at the people of the state who are involved in the United Front and are protesting. I told them that today is the time to present a model in Punjab. Like in the film, a Chief Minister held post for a single day to present a model and show how it is done...you guys fight elections, bring good people forward. If you do something, then in 2024 the whole country will follow you," BKU leader said.

He further said that Samyukta Kisan Morcha has suspended him for seven days but even after this period, his statement is not going to change. “It is necessary to contest the elections and I stand by my point of view," he said.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait revealed that 200 people will hold protests near Parliament from July 22, in view of the ongoing farmers' protests.

Previously, Rakesh Tikait had said the farmers are ready to resume talks with the union government on the contentious agrarian laws but emphasised that the discussions should be held without conditions.
