ED Moves Court Seeking Extension Of Arvind Kejriwal's Judicial Custody After His Surrender On June 2

The Enforcement Directorate sought an extension to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody from Rouse Avenue Court in the money laundering case related to the now scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday sought a 14-days extension to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody from Rouse Avenue Court in the money laundering case related to the now scrapped Delhi liquor policy. Kejriwal is currently out on interim bail till June 1 and will have to surrender to jail authorities on June 2 according to the Supreme Court's direction. Kejriwal's custody was to end today, if he had remained in jail. The Delhi court for now has kept the case pending as he is out on bail. 

The probe agency on Monday asked the Delhi court to extend Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody after he surrenders on June 2.

The AAP chief was arrested on March 21 by the ED in connection with the ongoing money laundering probe in the alleged irregularities in the now scrapped Delhi excise policy.

On May 10, he was granted an interim bail by the Supreme Court to campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However, he was barred from the Chief Minister's office. The court directed Kejriwal to furnish bail bonds in the sum of Rs.50,000/- with one surety of the like amount to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent and held that he shall not visit the Office of the Chief Minister and the Delhi Secretariat.

The court further said that Kejriwal should not sign any official files unless it is required and necessary for obtaining clearance/ approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

He was also barred from making any comment with regard to his role in the Delhi Liquor Policy case. The court further said that kejriwal should not interact with any of the witnesses or have access to any official files connected with the case.

 

The ED in its latest chargesheet has named Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party as accused in the alleged excise policy scam.
