EAM Jaishankar, UK Foreign Secretary Lammy Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership, Eye Early Meeting

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, had a conversation with the newly appointed UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, on Saturday. Both officials confirmed their commitment to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between both nations.

S Jaishankar wrote on his social media handle X, expressing his interest in his early in-person meeting with Lammy. "Delighted to speak to UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy. We reaffirmed our commitment to enhance our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Look forward to an early in-person meeting," he mentioned.

Jaishankar had earlier congratulated him on his appointment as the Foreign Secretary of the UK."Congratulations to @DavidLammy on being appointed Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. Look forward to continuing our engagement and strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."

In its response, David Lammy also wrote on its social media handle X about unlocking the potential of the relationship and developing a stronger partnership. "The UK and India share a unique friendship with deep connections between our people, business, and culture. Great to speak to my friend @DrSJaishankar about unlocking the potential of our relationship and developing a stronger and deeper comprehensive strategic partnership."

UAE's Minister Of Foreign Affairs Congratuales UK Counterpart Lammy

The UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also congratulated Lammy on his appointment. In addition, he also conveyed his desire to collaborate with Secretary Lammy to strengthen and advance these ties to advance the interests of both nations' citizens.

David Lammy, 51, replaced David Cameron as the top diplomat of the UK. Previously, Lammy served as the Labour Party's international affairs spokesperson for over two years.

Upon his appointment, he outlined his priorities. He emphasised that he is looking to focus on climate change and will begin with a "reset" in Europe. "It is the honour of my life to stand before you as Foreign Secretary... Britain has enormous potential. But the world faces huge challenges. More countries engaged in conflict than at any time since World War II. Rapidly changing technology. And a climate emergency.  We will begin with a reset with Europe, on climate and with the global South. Change begins now, " he said, news agency ANI reported.
