After setting Ravana's effigy on fire, PM Modi said that the burning of it should symbolise more than just a ritual, it should signify the eradication of societal ills that threaten mutual harmony.
Prominent political leaders from across the nation participated in the Vijayadashami celebrations on Tuesday by burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Maharashtra Chief Minster Eknath Shinde, and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur among many more were seen setting fire to the effigies of the Demons to symbolise the victory of the good over the evil.
The Prime Minister shot a fire arrow at Ravana effigy during Dussehra celebrations at DDA ground in the national capital's Dwarka. The Prime Minister also urged the audience to recognise that the burning of Ravana's effigy should symbolise more than just a ritual, it should signify the eradication of societal ills that threaten mutual harmony. He emphasised the importance of defeating "divisive forces" that seek to fragment India along the lines of casteism and regionalism.

He also worshipped artists enacting the roles of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman during Dussehra celebrations at the DDA ground in Dwarka, Delhi.

The Congress leader also applied 'tilak' on the forehead of artists playing the roles of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lakshman during Dussehra celebrations.
