Digvijaya Singh In Congress President Poll Race, To File Nomination: Sources
As of now, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor's participation in the upcoming party president election is officially confirmed.
Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh will contest the upcoming party president election. Digvijaya will file his nomination soon, sources informed ABP Live. He will be in Delhi tonight. Just days after confirming ABP Live, that no one from the Gandhi family will be contesting the Congress president election, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister's name has popped up as one of the contenders.
The Rajya Sabha MP had met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, on the day notification for the party president poll was issued, fuelling speculation of him being in the race. He had then denied any such ambitions for contesting for the party's top post.
Digvijaya's name, along with KC Venugopal and Mallikarjun Kharge, cropped up as a plausible contender after a storm brewed in Rajasthan Congress on Sunday.
The 75-year-old was also part of the Rahul Gandhi-led 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
As of now, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor's participation in the upcoming party president election is officially confirmed, while Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is the other name floating around.
Congress President Election Schedule
The notification for the election of the Congress President's post was issued on September 22 by the Central Election Authority, headed by senior party leader Madhusudan Mistry.
As per the announced schedule for the election of Congress President, after the notification, the process of filing nominations will continue till September 30.
The date of scrutiny of the nomination papers would be held on October 1. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 8.
In case of more than one candidate, voting will be held on October 17 and results will be declared on October 19.
