EXCLUSIVE: No One From Gandhi Family Will Contest Congress President Election, Digvijaya Singh Confirms

Several contenders are believed to have emerged for the Congress President's election including Shashi Tharoor, Ashok Gehlot, and Digvijaya Singh.

New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday confirmed that no one from the Gandhi family will contest the upcoming party president election. "I will do whatever the Congress President orders me to do. I don't intend to (contest) yet," Digvijaya Singh said when asked about his intention to contest Congress President Election.

In an exclusive interaction with ABP News, the veteran Congress leader said that the reason behind the decision for the Gandhi family to not participate in the AICC election was that the Gandhis had to face all kinds of attacks pertaining to dynastic politics. He asserted that the BJP leaders targetted Sonia Gandhi.

Notably, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has indicated that he could throw his hat in the ring if former president Rahul Gandhi does not agree to take on the party's reins.

"The claim that Gehlot does not want to leave the post of Chief Minister, is absolutely wrong. He will do what the leadership says," Digvijaya mentioned.

"The leadership and the legislature party will decide whether Sachin Pilot will be made the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, not Digvijay Singh," he added.

Exclusively speaking to ABP News, he also asserted that the era of the Gandhi family will never end. "The Gandhi family has made many sacrifices. The padayatra that Rahul Gandhi is taking out even today, can Amit Shah or Nadda dare to do it?" he remarked.

"Shashi Tharoor is a capable man and I respect him a lot": Digvijaya Singh responded on being asked about the Congress MP's candidature in the party president's election. He added that Manish Tewari can also file a nomination if he wishes to.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister was asked if the Gandhi family will be the force behind the new Congress leadership like the RSS is in the case of the BJP. To this, he responded: "RSS is a nonregistered entity so leave it aside. The buck will stop at the Congress President."

"New president will challenge Narendra Modi in 2024," the veteran Congress leader emphasised.
