New Delhi: Amid the Covid pandemic, India is now battling Dengue and viral fever which is spreading at a faster rate for the past few weeks. After the outbreak of dengue and mystery fever since the start of September, authorities have launched a campaign to destroy mosquito breeding grounds but the cases are still on a rise.
UP is registering the highest number of cases but from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh and Punjab to Telangana, the number of reported dengue cases has surged in the last few days.
Uttar Pradesh: With two more fatalities due to dengue in Uttar Pradesh, the death toll due to the viral fever in the district rose to 60 on Monday, as reported by PTI.
In Ghaziabad, there are 21 active cases of dengue, out of which one patient is admitted to the district hospital & the rest are in private hospitals. On average, 5 cases are detected daily. No patient is in serious condition, informed the Ghaziabad CMO Dr Bhavtosh Shankhdhar.
OPD of Ursala Hospital is receiving 75-100 patients of fever daily. 2 patients had tested positive for dengue in the rapid test but the same was not confirmed in the ELISA test. Effectively, there is no case of dengue in this hospital, said Dr Anil Nigam, CMS, Ursala Hospital in Kanpur, as quoted by ANI.
97 cases of dengue have been reported in Prayagraj, out of which 9 patients are admitted to hospitals. No death has been reported due to dengue this year so far. The cases are likely to increase in the city. Our preventive efforts are focused there, said CMO Nanak Saran.
Maharashtra: Mumbai has reported 305 cases of dengue since January 2021, including 85 this month, as per a civic report released on Tuesday.
During the entire last year, the Maharashtra capital had reported 129 dengue cases, it said. So far, no death due to the mosquito-borne disease has been reported this year, while there were three fatalities in 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in its report.
There were 85 dengue cases in Mumbai between September 1 and 12 this year, while 144 cases were reported last month, it said.
According to the civic report, most of the 85 fresh cases of the disease are reported from three civic wards - E (comprising Byculla, Chinchpokali, Agripada), G-South (Dadar-East, Sion-East, Matunga, Antop Hill) and G-North (Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim).
The BMC report also said that the civic body's pest control department inspected 4,46,077 houses and detected and destroyed 4,108 mosquito-breeding spots as a preventive measure against the disease.
The civic body in an advisory said all precautions must be taken to prevent indoor breeding of mosquitoes.
The BMC said it recently deployed drones to destroy mosquito-breeding spots in the city.
Delhi: At least 158 cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital this year, according to a civic report released on Monday.
The number of dengue cases for the January 1-September 11 period is also the highest this year since 2019 when the count had stood at 171 in that same duration.
Seventy-two cases were recorded in the month of August, which is about 45 per cent of the total reported cases, according to the report.
Thirty-four cases have been recorded in the first 11 days of September.
Madhya Pradesh: The state government will launch an anti-dengue campaign from Wednesday after Jabalpur district reported 150 fresh cases of the mosquito-borne infection and one death from it in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally of patients in the state to 2,570 since January 1 this year, according to PTI

Bihar: Nearly 400 children suffering from viral flu were admitted to various government hospitals over the past week. Health Minister Mangal Pandey, who accompanied the CM during the media interaction, said by now, around 300 of those children have been discharged from the hospital. However, 87 are still undergoing treatment.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday that the government was on alert to check the outbreak of viral fever.
Karnataka: The monsoon season in Bengaluru has resulted in a steady increase in dengue cases being reported in the city with the number of cases rising from 102 in May — prior to the onset of the monsoon — to 677 in August. The situation is however not alarming, BBMP officials have stated, according to an Indian Express report
West Bengal: North Bengal has become the epicentre of Dengue and mystery fever in the state and at least 130 children have been admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital with high fever and dysentery, as per a PTI report on Tuesday.
