Delhi: Two suspected terrorists of Islamic State of J&K arrested near Red Fort

Two suspected terrorists of Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir have been arrested by Delhi Police's Special Cell, said a senior police official on Friday.

NEW DELHI: Two suspected terrorists associated with Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) have been arrested by Delhi Police's Special Cell, said a senior police official on Friday. The duo, Parvez Ahmad (24) and Jamshed Zahoor (19), hailing from Kashmir, was arrested on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, he added. The arrests were made at the Jama Masjid bus stop near the Red Fort around 10.45 pm on Thursday. Parvez is currently pursuing MTech from Gajrola in Uttar Pradesh and was inspired by his brother, who was killed in an encounter in Shopian on January 26. "We arrested Parvez and Jamshed. They are members of an outfit called ISJK. The brother of Parvez was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in January, he was initially a member of Hizbul Mujahideen and later joined ISJK," an official said. Jamshed is a final-year diploma student. Two .32 pistols and four cell phones were seized from the duo, who were working on the instructions of Omar Ibn Nazir and Adil Thokar. "Delhi was not a part of their plan, they were just in transit here. They told us that the leader of the outfit (ISJK) is Umar Ibn Nazir and the number two leader is Adil Thokar. They were following the orders of Adil Thokar," he added. An FIR under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act has been registered with the police interrogating the suspects to nab their associates. They were going to Kashmir and were found in possession of weapons and were under 5-day police remand by the Special Cell. Security forces had in June gunned down ISJK chief Dawood Sofi alias Danish, who hailed from Srinagar, during an encounter in Anantnag district. Further details are awaited.
