Delhi Riots: Police Identify 3 Cops Who Forced Injured Men To Sing National Anthem During Clashes

The Delhi Police have identified 3 police personnel who forced injured men to sing the national anthem and Vande Matram.

New Delhi: After over a year of North-east Delhi riots, Delhi Police have identified three cops who allegedly forced five men injured during the Northeast Delhi riots last year to recite the national anthem.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Crime Branch scanned all the documents, evidence, and duty charts of Delhi police on the day of riots, quizzed over 100 police personnel, and identified the three officers who allegedly ill-treated the inured men.

The report further states that all these three officers will undergo a lie detector test to know what actually happened on the day of the incident.

“Almost after 17 months, police have zeroed in on three policemen, and senior officers have been informed. A lie-detector test will be conducted on them after taking their consent,” said a senior officer, as quoted by The Indian Express.

How did the matter come to light?

After the northeast Delhi riots, a video went viral on social media last year which showed police personnel beating five injured persons who were lying on the road, forcing them to recite the national anthem and chant 'Vande Mataram'.

One of the men seen in the video being forced to sing Jana Gana Mana as well as Vande Mataram, a 24-year-old resident of Kardam Puri named Faizan, had succumbed to his injuries at Delhi's Lok Nayak Hospital, days after the incident.

Communal clashes had taken over northeast Delhi in February last year. Notably,  the Delhi Police had registered more than 750 cases in connection with the northeast Delhi violence, in which at least 53 people were killed and several others were injured. More than 250 charge sheets have also been filed in riot-related cases so far, in which many accused have also been charge-sheeted.
