Delhi Records 28,867 Covid-19 Cases, Highest Ever Single-Day Spike

Delhi Covid Update: The positivity rate in the national capital mounted to 29.21 per cent, with active cases at 94,160.

New Delhi: Delhi recorded 28,867 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest ever single-day rise in infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

The positivity rate mounted to 29.21 per cent. This means that one in three people who are undergoing Covid tests in the national capital are turning out to be positive.  The national capital has 94,160 active cases, the health department said.

According to health department data, 31 Covid-related deaths were registered in Delhi. Delhi's previous biggest daily spike of 28,395 cases was recorded on April 20, 2021, during the peak of the second wave.

Earlier in the day, at a media briefing, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the hospitalisation rate had remained stable despite a spurt in Covid-19 cases in the national capital.

Jain said the hospital admission rate was the same for the last four days and cases would start declining soon in Delhi. Jain, however, asserted that the government had no plans on imposing a lockdown.

"The bed occupancy stands at 15 per cent in Delhi. A death audit committee has found that the fatalities have mostly occurred among those with comorbidities," he further said.
