Heavy Downpour Floods Delhi Roads, Man Dies After Drowning Under Water-Logged Minto Bridge

Delhi on Sunday received its first spell of heavy rains, which led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and brought traffic to a standstill at many points.

New Delhi: In an incident exposing the low-down state of affairs in the national capital, a 56-year-old man allegedly died due to drowning after Carrier-vehicle was submerged in water under the Minto Bridge in central Delhi, following a heavy downpour in the city on Sunday morning. As per reports, he was driving a Tata Ace from the New Delhi Railway Station to Connaught Place when he got stuck in the waterlogged area, they said. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. After the overnight rains submerged a bus in Minto raid, firfighters were alerted, who started a rescue mission. The fire department rescued a bus driver and a conductor, but Kundan somehow couldn't be saved. His body was pulled out when the water subsided. A DTC bus and two auto-rickshaws were stuck at the Minto Bridge underpass due to waterlogging, following which three people were rescued, Delhi Fire Service officials. Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said: “all agencies- PWD, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Municipal Corporation & Flood Department are working accordingly. Some part of our management was busy with Covid-19 but we are doing the needful. CM Arvind Kejriwal is monitoring the situation personally.”
