Delhi: Man kills pregnant wife for not making round chapatis

NEW DELHI: A 22- year-old pregnant woman was beaten to death by her husband as she couldn’t make him round chapattis. The incident occurred in North-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Saturday night. However, it only came to light on Sunday early morning when the victim’s brother called up the police and informed that his sister was lying unconscious in her flat while her four year old daughter was locked up in a room. The women, whose name was Simran was taken to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. According to the medical reports, she was four months pregnant. The husband had eloped. The daughter told the police that her parents often used to quarrel because of her mother's chapattis. "My mother was a good cook but the chapatti shape angered my father," she said. On Saturday night, around 10.30pm, the couple fought again during which Simran's husband kicked her in the stomach. The daughter tried to save her mother but her father dragged her to another room and locked her up. Sometime later, he strangled Simran. The couple had a live in relationship for a year before getting married five years ago. The husband’s business had flopped which forced him to work at a factory for the last two years.
