Atishi To Get Mukesh Ahlawat As New Minister In Delhi Cabinet

Atishi's cabinet will take oath on September 21 and will feature a new face.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday announced that MLA Mukesh Ahlawat will be the new face in CM-designate Atishi-led Delhi government. AAP MLAs Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, Gopal Rai and Imran Hussain have been reatined as Cabinet Ministers and they all take oath on September 21.

Who Is Mukesh Ahlawat?

Ahlawat contested the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections for the first time from Sultanpur Majra on an AAP ticket. A Dalit face from Delhi North West region, Ahlawat has been inducted to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Delhi's social welfare minister Raaj Kumar Anand.
Anand resigned from the AAP-led government and quit party in April. Even during the Lok Sabha elections, his name was in discussion as a candidate from North West Delhi. However, due to the alliance, this seat went to Congress.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister on Tuesday, following which Atishi staked claim to form a government. Kejriwal had announced his plans to resign as the Delhi CM two days after he was released on bail from Tihar Jail. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the excise policy-linked CBI case last week.

Atishi, the lone woman minister in the Delhi Cabinet, was unanimously selected for the Delhi Chief Minister's post by the ruling AAP legislators on Tuesday.

Atishi held 13 departments in the Kejriwal government, including education, finance, revenue, PWD, and power.
