Maharashtra: Delhi-Goa Rajdhani Train Derails Inside Tunnel Near Ratnagiri, Passengers Safe

Madgaon-bound Rajdhani Express from Hazrat Nizamuddin derailed in Karbude tunnel near Ratnagiri on Saturday morning.

New Delhi: A Goa-bound Rajdhani Express train from Hazrat Nizamuddin derailed inside Karbude tunnel near Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra early morning on Saturday. However, officials have reported no injuries and said that all passengers are safe.

The derailment was led by boulders that had fallen on the tracks. The accident spot is 325 km from Mumbai.

The train - 02414 - was going to Madgaon in Goa when it derailed inside Karbude tunnel, approximately 325 km from Mumbai, around 4.15 am, a spokesperson of the Konkan Railway, which operates the route told PTI.

"The front wheel of the locomotive of Rajdhani superfast train derailed in Karbude tunnel located between Ukshi and Bhoke stations in Ratnagiri region of the Konkan Railway," the official was quoted by PTI.

A rail maintenance vehicle (RMV) reached the site and an accident relief medical van (ARMV) with re-railing equipment had left for the site from Ratnagiri for the restoration work. Along with Konkan Railway officials who have also rushed to the site to clear the line the official informed.

The Konkan Railway operates a 756 km-long route between Roha near Mumbai and Thokur near Mangalore which is spread across three states - Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. It is considered to be one of the challenging terrains has it has many rivers, gorges, and mountains along the way.
