Delhi Fire: Anaj Mandi Building Had No Fire Clearance, Says DFS; Modi, Kejriwal Announce Compensation

New Delhi: The Delhi Fire Service has revealed that the four storey building in the Anaj Mandi area which suffered a massive blaze on Sunday morning, had no fire clearance. According to Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg, the building did not have a fire clearance and no fire safety equipment was found installed on the premises. The blaze which is being called as the worst fire mishap of the city since 1997, killed 43 people, mostly labourers. The building housed illegal manufacturing units. So far, more than 60 people have been rescued and shifted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP) and Lady Harding Hospital. The Union Home Ministry has sought a detailed report on the tragic fire. It is learnt that the report has been sought both from Delhi Police and the state government. Prime Minister Modi announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of those killed and Rs 50 thousand for the injured. The official Twitter handle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: "PM Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic fire in Delhi. PM has also approved Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured in the fire." Earlier, the Delhi government too announced Rs 10 lakh assistance to the families of those killed. The government also announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to the injured. (with inputs from agencies)
