Suvendu Adhikari’s ‘Bengal Next’ Warning After BJP’s Delhi Victory, TMC Sets 250+ Target
Delhi Election Results 2025: The BJP’s West Bengal unit hailed the party’s Delhi victory, hoping to defeat ruling TMC in 2026 while the Mamata Banerjee-led party downplayed the impact of the poll outcome.

Delhi Election Results 2025: Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, senior West Bengal BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar, fired fresh salvos at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, declaring that Bengal is next in the party’s electoral conquest.
Addressing reporters after the BJP’s landslide win in Delhi, Adhikari exulted, “Delhi ki jeet hamari hain… 2026 mein Bengal ki baari” (We have won Delhi, in 2026, it’s Bengal’s turn). He later took to X to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the victory a “decisive mandate” against AAP.

“Huge victory for @BJP4Delhi! I express my heartiest congratulations to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for leading from the front and orchestrating this very special victory over AAP-da. Now, the people of Delhi will receive the benefits of a Double Engine Govt in the National Capital as Mr Farziwal has been swept out of power,” Adhikari wrote, referring to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
Echoing his sentiments, BJP state president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar declared, “The people of Bengal will also vote for the BJP in the next Assembly elections and reject the TMC”, news agency PTI reported.

Bengal BJP Hails Delhi Win As ‘Rejection of Corruption’, TMC Downplays Impact With 250+ Target
The BJP’s West Bengal unit hailed the party’s Delhi victory, terming it a rejection of corruption and nepotism. Majumdar asserted that the result reflected the people’s faith in development and would serve as a morale booster for BJP workers in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 state elections.
In contrast, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which had supported AAP in the Delhi elections, dismissed any impact on Bengal politics. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh posted on X, “What happens in Delhi won’t have an impact in Bengal. 2026 – West Bengal Assembly Elections. @AITCofficial 250+ seats. Fourth-time Chief Minister @MamataOfficial.”
However, according to news agency PTI, a senior TMC leader admitted the result was a setback for the anti-BJP front. “The BJP winning in Delhi is not good news for the anti-BJP front. The reasons behind AAP’s defeat need to be assessed,” the leader said, as quoted by PTI.
BJP’s Bengal Focus: 2026 Election in Sight
The Bengal BJP’s renewed attack on Mamata Banerjee comes ahead of the crucial 2026 state elections, where the party is determined to break the TMC’s dominance. Mamata has successfully fended off BJP’s advances in three major elections—the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election. The TMC also crushed the BJP in the 2021 Kolkata local body polls.
Despite the BJP’s aggressive push, Mamata’s TMC has continued to dominate Bengal’s political landscape, increasing its seat margin over the BJP in successive elections. However, each election cycle has been followed by fierce political clashes, with allegations of post-poll violence, mob killings, and crude bomb attacks involving both parties.
Suvendu Adhikari, once a close aide of Mamata Banerjee, has been one of the BJP’s most vocal critics of her government since switching sides in December 2020. He has consistently led attacks on the TMC, particularly over issues like the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital and the Sandeshkhali sexual assault allegations involving TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan.
The Delhi election results also carry significant implications for the opposition INDIA alliance, as Mamata Banerjee had openly supported Arvind Kejriwal and AAP—a move that displayed the cracks within the bloc. The AAP-Congress feud in Delhi ultimately played into the BJP’s hands, as vote splits contributed to AAP’s losses.
