Cyclone Nisarga Likely To Hit Maharashtra, Gujarat By June 2; More Details Inside

India Meteorological Department on Sunday warned the Indian Western states Maharashtra and Gujarat to brace up for a probable storm expected by June 2-3.

While the Eastern states Odisha, West Bengal are reeling under the aftereffects of Cyclone Amphan, the India Meteorological Department on Sunday warned the Indian Western states Maharashtra and Gujarat to brace up for a probable storm expected by June 2-3. Taking to the micro blogging site, weather agency IMD Twitted, "The low-pressure area over Arabian Sea to intensify into Cyclonic Storm during next 48-hours. It would reach near north Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts around 3rd June morning." Earlier in the day, the regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai, had also informed that a low pressure area has formed over Southeast and adjoining East-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area. To concentrate into a Depression over Eastcentral and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea during next 24 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours.   Key Things To Know About Cyclone Nirarga:
  • A low pressure area has formed over Southeast and adjoining East-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area on Saturday, May 30.
  • This low-pressure area is likely to transform into depression tomorrow and into a cyclonic storm, Nisarga, the day after.
  • Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls likely over Lakshadweep area, Kerala and Coastal Karnataka on May 31 and June 1.
  • Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy falls very likely over south Konkan and Goa on May 31 and isolated heavy to very falls on June 1.
  • Light to moderate rainall at most places with isolated heavy falls likely over south Gujarat, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on June 3 and June 4.
This is the second massive cyclone heading towards the Indian coast in past 15 days. Cyclone Amphan which formed in the Bay of Bengal, had hit Odisha, West Bengal on May 20. The cyclone had left behind a long trail of destruction as it destroyed many houses, trees; farmers suffered huge loss.
