India Monsoon HIGHLIGHTS: Hello and welcome to ABP Live Cyclone Biparjoy live blog. Follow this space for all the latest news and developments on Cyclone Biparjoy and monsoon in India. Cyclone Biparjoy has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and will intensify even further in the next 48 hours, said the MeT department on Thursday, adding that the cyclone will move towards northwest India during the next three days.
It also predicted a "mild" monsoon onset over Kerala and "weak" progress beyond the southern peninsula under its influence.
Meteorologists, however, said the cyclone has been impacting the intensity of the monsoon and the onset over Kerala would be "mild", as per a PTI report.
According to the IMD, the cyclone will have an impact on Mumbai, Goa, and Gujarat's coastal district of Porbandar. Fishermen in Gujarat have been warned not to venture into the Arabian Sea till June 14.
Monsoon Arrives In Kerala
On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department declared the onset of monsoon over Kerala after the southwest monsoon reached Indian mainland. The monsoon onset has, however, come a week late this year than the usual onset on June 1. "The southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala today, June 8," the weather agency said in a statement on Thursday.
"The monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the south Arabian Sea and some parts of the central Arabian Sea, entire Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, most parts of south Tamil Nadu, the remaining parts of the Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar and some more parts of southwest, central and northeast Bay of Bengal today (Thursday)," the weather department added.
Earlier, it was predicted that the monsoon would arrive on June 4 in Kerala but later Skymet predicted the monsoon to arrive on June 7 with an error margin of three days. With a deviation of 7 days, the southwest monsoon usually sets in Kerala on June 1.

Four Navy Ships On Standby, 5 Relief Teams At Porbandar And Okha: Indian Navy
Four Indian Navy ships with HADR bricks embarked are on standby at short notice. Five relief teams each at Porbandar and Okha and 15 relief teams at Valsura are standby for rendering assistance to civil authorities. Helos at INS Hansa in Goa and INS Shikra in Mumbai are ready for embarkation/ ferry to Gujarat, Indian Navy said.
P8i and Dornier aircraft ex-Hansa, Goa are on standby for aerial recce and transportation of relief material and personnel. Additional HADR stores and equipment are kept standby for embarkation at short notice. HQWNC and area headquarters are maintaining close liaison with state government/ civil authorities for providing assistance in event of any contingency, the Indian Navy said.
