Heavy rains swept across parts of Rajasthan on Friday (June 16) as Cyclone Biparjoy weakened after making landfall in Gujarat. There were 14 train cancellations in the North Western Railway zone. The Rajasthan government has temporarily suspended relief camps in districts where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain warnings. Officials are keeping a close eye on the situation and urging residents to be cautious.

  • Heavy rains occurred in certain areas of Rajasthan on Friday as Cyclone Biparjoy moved towards the state after making landfall in Gujarat.
  • Rail traffic in the North Western Railway zone was disrupted, resulting in the cancellation of 14 trains, according to news agency PTI. 
  • The Rajasthan government has temporarily halted inflation relief camps in districts where the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain warnings.
  • Cyclone Biparjoy wreaked havoc in Gujarat's Kutch and Saurashtra regions before dissipating into a deep depression.
  • The depression brought rain to Jalore, Sirohi, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and surrounding areas, as well as wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, according to IMD. 
  • The weather service predicts more rain in parts of Rajasthan until Monday, with a "red" alert issued for Jalore and Barmer, indicating the possibility of more than 200 mm of rain.
  • As a precautionary measure, inflation relief camps were suspended in districts under red alert.
  • As per the PTI report, MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) projects have been halted in districts that are expected to be impacted by heavy rains.
  • The weather department issued red alerts for extremely heavy rainfall in Barmer, Jalore, and other districts on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Rescue teams, including 30 teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and additional reserve teams, were deployed in districts under red alert to ensure that any emergencies were responded to as soon as possible.
