Covid-19 Update: Schools In Delhi Will Remain Closed For Now, Says CM Arvind Kejriwal
Classes have been halted in schools and universities across the country since March 16 earlier this year. when the Centre announced a countrywide lockdown as part of the measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 disease.
New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on the sideline of an event told that media today that the schools are not opening due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the national capital. The government had earlier announced that schools will continue to remain closed till October 31 in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Classes have been halted in schools and universities across the country since March 16 earlier this year. when the Centre announced a countrywide lockdown as part of the measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 disease.
On 25th march a nationwide lockdown was imposed. Until now several restrictions have been eased in different phases of "unlock", educational institutions continue to remain closed. However, as per "unlock" phase guidelines, it’s upon the discretion of the states to take a call about reopening schools.
As per the “Unlock” guidelines issued, schools were allowed to call students from class 9 to 12 to school on voluntary basis from September 21. However, the Aam Aadmi Party’s government in Delhi decided not nogt open the schools.

Talking about AAP government's decision to not pay for CBSE examination fees this year, Kejriwal cited fund crunch due to the pandemic.
Till now, the union territory of Delhi has seen around 3.48 lakh total cases of Covid-19, 3.16 lakh recoveries and around 6189 fatalities. The central imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 25th, when only 606 cases of coronavirus were recorded.
Currently, India ranks second in the world with 7.81 million total cases, but maintains one of the lowest fatality rate of just 80 deaths per million of population.
While the Coronavirus spread curve is seen flattening a bit these days, the UGC earlier ordered the universities and colleges to operate classes with full force from 1st of November.
