Covid-19 Surge: Zomato, Swiggy Not To Deliver Food Items After 8 PM In Maharashtra

Announcing to comply with the order, Swiggy and Zomato have informed the customers in this regard through the in-app notifications and asked them to order food before 8 p.m. The in-app notifications were sent to the customers on the first day of the lockdown on Monday.

With new restrictions, including a complete lockdown on weekends, in places in Maharashtra to control the spike in Covid-19 cases, food-delivery giants Swiggy and Zomato have complied with the government’s order and announced not to deliver food items after 8 PM in the state.

Announcing to comply with the order, Swiggy and Zomato have informed the customers in this regard through the in-app notifications and asked them to order food before 8 p.m. The in-app notifications were sent to the customers on the first day of the lockdown on Monday.

If a customer will place an order after 8 PM., the Swiggy app will display the message: “We are not delivering here at the moment!” Zomato on the other hand will display the message: “We're currently not accepting orders online. We'll be back soon.”

This comes as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra has imposed a night curfew every day that starts at 8 p.m. and complete lockdown on weekends from 8 p.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Monday.

The take-away orders, parcels and home delivery services will only be allowed between 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday, said the government order, adding only home delivery services shall be allowed between 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

The order further said there shall be no visit to any restaurant or bar for ordering purposes or pick-up.

This comes as Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Several people, including Bollywood stars and cricketers, have so far tested positive as the cases continue to increase.

India on Monday reported 96,982 fresh coronavirus cases and 446 related deaths. Of these, 47,288 cases were reported in Maharashtra.
