Delhi Govt To Convert Over 240 School Auditoriums Into Makeshift Covid-19 Hospitals

Delhi government is assuring citizens that they are continuously working towards improving infrastructure and adding more facilities for patients as cases continue to rise.

New Delhi: Delhi government is looking to convert auditoriums in more than 240 schools as Covid-19 hospitals for patients that need to be hospitalised. ALSO READ | Delhi Govt Caps Per Day Charges For Covid-19 Patients In Hotels; Check Details Here Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia spoke about this plan of the Delhi government.   "To meet the requirement of additional beds, which is estimated to be around 80,000 by the end of July, Delhi Government is planning to use the auditoriums in nearly 242 schools to set up additional beds for Covid-19 patients requiring hospitalization," Sisodia said. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia visited Radha Soami Satsang Beas centre on Thursday. CM Kejriwal revealed, "this space is being converted into Covid isolation centre. Around 10,000 beds can be set up here." Manish Sisodia took charge of the Health Ministry after Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was tested positive for Coronavirus. ALSO READ | Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain Tests Positive For Coronavirus The Deputy CM had inspected 50 isolation coaches stationed at Shakur Basti railway station on Wednesday and assured one and all that the Delhi government is trying its best to make beds available for Coronavirus patients in the city. "We have been provided 50 coaches with 800 beds so far. I went to inspect these coaches... But soaring temperatures will make it problematic for our medical staff to operate while wearing heavy PPEs," Sisodia. "We are trying our best to improve the infrastructure and to come up with a solution so that we can begin deploying staff and admitting patients in these isolation centres," the deputy chief minister said.
