Country Wants Justice For Hathras Victim, BJP MLA Says, "Instilling Sanskar In Daughters Will Stop Rapes"

New Delhi: While there is a massive outcry for justice all over the country to bring justice for the 20-year-old Hathras gangrape, who died in Delhi on Tuesday, a BJP MLA made a controversial statement on how we can stop rapes in India but instilling values in our daughter. Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Lists 5 Points After Meet Making a bizarre patriarchal statement, the Uttar Pradesh MLA from Ballia has said: "It's the duty of all mothers and fathers to imbibe good values in their daughters and bring them up in cultured environments." "I am a teacher along with being an MLA. Such incidents (like rape) can be stopped only with sanskar (culture), not with shasan (good governance) or talwar (referring to sword or might)," the BJP's Surendra Singh said on Saturday. "It's my dharma, government's dharma but family's dharma too... While the government is committed to protecting, the family should be committed too to imbibe good values in their children. Sanskar and sarkar can make India beautiful, there is no other alternative," he is heard saying in a video. He was replying to a question by a reporter, who asked him: "Why do you think rape cases continue even as is people say this is Ram Rajya?"

Surendra Singh has a history of making controversial statements

Last year, the BJP MLA had said that Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatama Gandhi "was not a terrorist" and he "committed a mistake". Earlier this year, he commented on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she is a "cruel-hearted woman". While the nation is on the streets holding huge protests demanding justice for the Hathras victim and her family, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a CBI probe in the case hours after two top officials - DGP HC Awasthy and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi - visited the family.and have suspended the SP, DSP, Inspector, and some others officials. Meanwhile, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi met the Hathras victim's family on Saturday whose rape, murder, and forcible cremation have triggered widespread protests across India.
