Mumbai saw a decline in Covid-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day while Delhi registered more than 20,000 infections on Tuesday.

Even though the highly transmissible Omicron variant has led to a spurt in cases in the country, hospitalisations and deaths are fewer compared to the peaks driven by Delta last year.

Delhi recorded 21,259 cases and 23 Covid-related deaths on Tuesday, which is the highest in the last eight months, taking the death toll to 25,200. The positivity rate has amounted to 25.65 percent, according to health department data.

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal assured the people that a lockdown won't be imposed in the national capital.

"Rising Covid cases are a matter of concern but there is no need to panic. Very few people are getting hospitalised. Wearing a mask is very important. There will be no lockdown if you continue to wear a mask. There is no plan to impose a lockdown as of now," Kejriwal said while addressing a virtual press conference.
