Mumbai Sees Dip In Covid Cases For Fourth Straight Day; Delhi Logs 21,259 Infections

Covid Update: Even though the highly transmissible Omicron variant has led to spurt in cases in the country, hospitalisations and deaths are fewer.

New Delhi: Mumbai saw a decline in Covid-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day while Delhi registered more than 20,000 infections on Tuesday. 

Even though the highly transmissible Omicron variant has led to spurt in cases in the country, hospitalisations and deaths are fewer compared to the peaks driven by Delta last year.

Covid-19 Cases, Deaths In Delhi

Delhi recorded 21,259 cases and 23 Covid-related deaths on Tuesday, which is the highest in the last eight months, taking the death toll to 25,200. 

The positivity rate has mounted to 25.65 per cent, according to health department data.

Delhi has 74,881 active cases, of which 50,796 are in home isolation. As per data, 2,209 Covid patients are in hospitals. Of them, 84 are on ventilator support.

With 12,161 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has gone up to 14,90,074.

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal assured the people that a lockdown won't be imposed in the national capital.

"Rising Covid cases are a matter of concern but there is no need to panic. Very few people are getting hospitalised. Wearing mask is very important. There will be no lockdown if you continue to wear mask. There is no plan to impose a lockdown as of now," Kejriwal said while addressing a virtual press conference.

The Delhi government has imposed night and weekend curfews, among other restrictions, to check the spread of the coronavirus.

Covid-19 Cases, Deaths In Mumbai

According to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai reported 11,647 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, a drop of 2,001 from the previous day. Only two Covid-linked deaths were registered. 

According to a BMC bulletin, the Covid-19 tally has jumped to 9,39,867, while the death toll climbed to 16,413.

On Monday, Mumbai reported 13,648 cases and five fatalities. The positivity rate in the financial capital also dipped to 18.75 per cent from over 23 per cent a day ago.
