No Community Transmission In Tamil Nadu But Virus Spread More In Chennai: CM Palaniswami

The chief minister said that capital city Chennai, which is also the largest in the state, is densely populated as a result of which the cases it has reported more cases.

Chennai, July 11: In response to the allegations that the Tamil Nadu government has under-reported Covid-19 deaths, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday refuted the claims and informed that there was no community transmission of coronavirus in the state. The chief minister said that capital city Chennai, which is also the largest in the state, is densely populated as a result of which the cases it has reported more cases. Since Chennai is densely populated the spread of the virus is more there,” said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, according to the news agency ANI. “We don't hide the number of deaths, we won't gain anything if we do that,” added the Chief Minister.
According to an IANS report, the work on reconciliation of Covid-19 death figures in Chennai has already begun with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has now jumped to 2,86,579. With as many as 357 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 8,102. Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 94,041 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (36,841) and Delhi (32,810). According to the figures, there are currently 1, 37 lakh active corona cases in the country. The most active cases are in Maharashtra with more than 46,000 infected people being treated in hospitals. After this, Delhi is at number two, Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the most active cases.
