Howrah Court Send Jharkhand MLAs Nabbed With Huge Amount Of Cash To 10 Days Police Remand

New Delhi: Three Jharkhand MLAs who were nabbed with huge amounts of cash were directed a by a Howrah district court to be sent to a 10-day police remand, reported news agency ANI. The three legislators were nabbed from West Bengal and taken for a medical examination after which they were produced before the court earlier in the day. 

The Congress has suspended the three Jharkhand MLAs who were arrested in West Bengal with large sums of money, news agency PTI reported.

The action against the MLAs comes only days after Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee was suspended after the Enforcement Directorate found cash worth 21 crore at his ally Arpita Mukherjee's house.

On Saturday, three lawmakers were apprehended: Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari, Khijri MLA Rajesh Kachhap, and Kolebira MLA Naman Bixal. On Saturday evening, the large sum of money was retrieved from their autos near Howarah.

"We had specific inputs that a huge amount of money was being transported in a black car. we started checking the vehicles and intercepted this SUV in which three jharkhand mlas were travelling. a huge amount of cash was found in the vehicle," Howrah Superintendent of police (rural) Swati Bhangalia said, PTI reported. 

Jharkhand's three MLAs were questioned individually last night. There is a discrepancy in their statements, according to police sources. As a result, the interrogation was ongoing at all times.

The MLAs' lawyer claimed that they were not allowed to meet with the legislators. These Congress MLAs underwent a medical examination yesterday night.
