Congress MP Rajani Patil's Suspension To Continue As RS Committee Fails To Submit Report: Dhankhar

Rajya Sabha MP from Congress, Rajani Patil's suspension to continue as the House committee has not submitted any report on the matter.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday said that the suspension of Congress MP Rajani Patil from the upper house will continue as the Rajya Sabha committee has not submitted its report on the issue. Making the announcement on the last day of the Parliament's Budget session, Dhankhar said that Patil's suspension will continue till the report of the committee comes.

Rajya Sabha MP from Congress, Rajani Patil was suspended for the remaining Budget session for recording a video of the ruckus in the House early this year. The video showed opposition MPs protesting during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to the Motion of Thanks.

Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar took a 'serious view' on the matter calling it an 'unwholesome activity' on her side.

Dhankhar said, "In public domain yesterday, on Twitter, there was a dissemination of a video relating to proceedings of this House…Rajani Ashokrao Patil engaged in this unwholesome activity and what has been seen is a matter that must engage our attention."

"The entire matter will be probed by the Privileges Committee and till we have the benefit of the recommendation of the Privileges Committee for consideration of this august House, Patil is suspended for the current session," he said.

Earlier, Chairman Dhankhar had asked leaders of all political parties to express their views on the matter related to filming House proceedings while PM Modi was speaking on the Motion of Thanks. A motion to suspend Patil for the remaining part of the ongoing Budget session was also adopted.
