Opposition Slam Centre Over Assam-Mizoram Dispute That Left 6 Dead
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee have all targeted the Centre for the tense situation in the Assam-Mizoram border.
Cachar: Violent clash between Assam & Mizoram late Monday night left 5 Assamese policemen and one civilian dead, reacting to this several opposition leaders have voiced their opinions over this situation.

Sharing an alleged video from the clash, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has targeted Home Minister Amit Shah over the violent clash between the two northeastern states calling the incident Amit Shah's failure. The Congress leader further said that it is because of him that hatred and mistrust had been created among the citizens. Along with this, he also expressed his condolences to the people who lost their lives in this incident and expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Similarly, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen Chief Asaduddin Owaisi, too took a direct dig at the Home Minister Amit Shah and tweet in Hindi, "Violence “suddenly” escalated on the Mizoram-Assam border, killing 6 Assam Police personnel and injuring several others. It was on July 24-25 that Wazir-e-Dakhla had visited the North-East region where the Bridges were built to praise the Modi government. Amit Shah, how did such a big incident happen immediately after the visit?"
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the central government of targeting the violence on the Assam-Mizoram border. He said that with such frequent incidents, BJP has invited the death of democracy in our country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had last week held a conference with chief ministers of north-eastern states in a bid to resolve prickly border disputes between the, last night spoke to chief ministers of Assam and Mizoram, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Zoramthanga respectively, and urged them to ensure peace along the disputed border and find an amicable settlement.
Assam declared three-day mourning from Tuesday, during the three-day mourning period, the national flag will fly at half-mast and there will be no public entertainment, a notification issued by the Assam government said.
Border dispute
Mizoram was a district of Assam before it was carved out as a separate union territory in 1971 after years of insurgency and the district borders did not really matter. The border issue cropped up after that as perceptions over where the boundary should be, differed.
While Mizoram wants it to be along the inner line notified in 1875, which Mizo tribals feel is part of their historical homeland, Assam wants it to be demarcated according to district demarcation done much later.
The two states share a 164.6-km border between the Assam's districts of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj, and Mizoram's Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts.
