‘Centre Should Be Plastered, They Don't Trust Their Own Ministers’: CM Mamata On Pegasus Row

Hitting out at BJP over the Pegasus Row, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee asked the opposition to unite against Union Government.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has slammed Central government over the Pegasus snooping matter. While addressing the people online on Martyr's Day on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress Chief asked the opposition to unite against the Bharatiya Janata party-led Union Government.

Pointing to the threat posed to democracy by the alleged Pegasus Spyware, Banerjee said that "media, judiciary and the Election Commission" make democracy but "Pegasus has captured all three."

Holding her mobile phone that was wrapped in a white bandage, the Trinamool Congress supremo said that Israeli military grade spyware "dangerous" and "ferocious" for which she has plastered her phone.

"Our phones are tapped. Pegasus is dangerous and ferocious. I cannot talk to anyone. You are paying too much money for spying. I have plastered my phone. We should also plaster the Centre otherwise country will be destroyed. BJP has bulldozed federal structure," CM Mamata said.

Trinamool Congress is observing Martyrs' Day today. It is to be noted that the speech of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be broadcast in different states including poll-bound Gujarat, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Using the occasion, TMC has attempted to spread its wings across the country in a bid to become a national party.

TMC observes 'Martyr's Day' every year on July 21 in memory of 13 people killed in police firing at a Youth Congress rally in Kolkata in 1993. In the year 1993, Mamta Banerjee was in command of the Youth Congress. She marched towards the secretariat demanding that only voter ID card should be considered as a document for voting. During this march, an attempt was made by the administration to stop them.

Mamta Banerjee's workers were moving towards the secretariat even after the rigorous efforts of the police. To stop this mob of workers, the police finally opened fire. In this firing, 13 workers were killed and many were injured. Since this accident, Mamta Banerjee celebrates 21 July every year as Martyr's Day.
