Chintan Shivir: Congress Mulls 50% Quota For Minorities, Youth Representation | Key Announcements

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has formed the panel on social justice and empowerment to lead discussions on this issue at the ‘Chintan Shivir’.

New Delhi: The Congress, which is holding its three-day brainstorming session ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city, has made some key decisions, including bringing in measures to ensure 50 percent representation to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs and minorities at all levels of the party organisation besides proportionate representation to the youth, in a bid to revive its fortunes in the run-up to the 2024 general elections. Congress leader K. Raju said that a decision on bringing in a measure to ensure 50 percent representation to the SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities at all levels of the party organisation has been taken by the panel on social justice and empowerment, PTI reported.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has formed the panel on social justice and empowerment to lead discussions on this issue at the ‘Chintan Shivir’.

Below Are Some Key Decisions Taken In The ‘Chintan Shivir’:

  • The decision by the panel is likely to be recommended for approval of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Raju said.
  • Raju said the panel is also likely to propose establishing a social justice advisory council to the Congress president, adding this advisory council will look at issues and give recommendation to the party chief.
  • Congress leader Sachin Pilot on his part said there has to be a collective call for action by party leaders of all generations and ages after the ‘Chintan Shivir’.
  • Pilot exhorted all party colleagues to work collectively toward achieving the objective of strengthening the organisation and bringing it back to power.
  • Pilot said the leaders of all generations have to work together to achieve the objective of strengthening the organisation and win back the confidence of people to help restore the party’s pristine glory.
  • He added that all party leaders should help reignite the party in a way so that people give the party the mandate once again.
  • Pilot said there has to be new ideation, new messaging and new communication to evolve ourselves towards strengthening the party.
  • Asserting the ongoing conclave will be extremely useful and outcome-oriented, he said the idea is not to draft an agenda for a manifesto but to take stock, how to inculcate ideas and changes and then move forward so that the party can overcome whatever challenges lie ahead successfully in the next few weeks and months.
  • Exuding confidence that the Congress would have a roadmap and a clear agenda post the ‘Chintan Shivir’, Pilot said it is about coming up with actionable points that are deliverable.
