Not For The Chicken Hearted! Poultry Owner Says 63 Birds Died Due To Loud DJ Music

Ranjit Parida of Kandagaradi village claimed that 63 chickens of his farm died of suspected heart attack due to the blaring music played by the DJ during the wedding procession.

New Delhi: In a bizarre incident in Odisha, a poultry farm owner has lodged a complaint with police alleging that more than 60 chickens of his farm died due to loud DJ music played at a wedding procession.

In his FIR filed at Nilagiri police station, Ranjit Parida of Kandagaradi village claimed that 63 chickens of his farm died of suspected heart attack due to the blaring music played by the DJ during the wedding procession on Sunday night, a report in Hindustan Times said.

Parida also claimed that some people abused him when he asked them to lower the volume of the music.

"At about 11 pm on Sunday, the bridegroom's procession came to my village playing loud music and bursting firecrackers. As the sound was too much to bear for the 2,000 broiler chickens on my farm, I requested people in the procession to lower the volume. However, they all seemed to be drunk and verbally abused me," HT quoted Parida as saying.

Parida said the loud music left his chickens terrified and he later found 63 of them dead. He claimed that his chickens were not suffering from any disease.

"I lost around 180 kg of chicken and suffered a loss of Rs 25,000. The birds probably died of shock due to the loud sound," HT quoted Parida as saying.

Parida also said at first he tried to settle the matter by asking for compensation from the bridegroom's family, but it was not fruitful.

Nilagiri police station inspector-in-charge Droupadi Das told HT that she had summoned both Parida and a member of the bridegroom's family for a discussion on the complaint. The police have also sought the help of veterinary experts to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
