'Happy That India Won...': Shama Mohamed Days After Fat-Shaming Rohit Sharma

Congress leader Shama Mohamed said she is very happy that India won the semi-final match against Australia under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

A stellar all-round performance, highlighted by Virat Kohli's batting brilliance, propelled India to a four-wicket victory over Australia in IND vs AUS Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Congress leader Shama Mohamed gave reactions on this victory and said that she was very happy that India won the match against Australia under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

She said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "I am very happy today that India has won the semi-final match against Australia under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. I congratulate Virat Kohli for scoring 84 runs...I am very excited and looking forward to the finals".

The Congress leader has been a centre of controversy after she fat-shamed Rohit Sharma, after the latter was dismissed for 15 runs off 17 balls during a match against New Zealand for the ICC Champions Trophy.

The Congress leader also said Sharma needs to lose weight. "Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had!," she wrote in a post on X that has been deleted now.

"What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India," she wrote in another post.

Congress Distanced Itself From Shama's Remarks

Congress leader Pawan Khera said the remarks don't reflect the Party's position and Mohamed has been asked to delete the post.

"Dr. Shama Mohammed, National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, made certain remarks about a cricketing legend that do not reflect the party's position. She has been asked to delete the concerned social media posts from X and has been advised to exercise greater caution in the future. The Indian National Congress holds the contributions of sporting icons in the highest regard and does not endorse any statements that undermine their legacy," he said on X.

After her comments snowballed into a controversy, Shama Mohamed said it was a 'generic tweet'.
