Centre To Send Expert Team In Mizoram To Deal With Spike In Covid Cases In State
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan informed a Mizoram state delegation that the Centre will send an expert team to deal with the crisis as soon as possible to deal with the rising cases in Mizoram.
The state of Mizoram has seen an unprecedented rise in the number of Covid cases in the country. The positivity rate has gone up to 18.44% in the state, as informed by government officials. The Home Ministry's data shows that the overall weekly positivity rate is 1.7%. (This number has gone down by 3%)
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan informed a Mizoram state delegation that the Centre will send an expert team to deal with the crisis as soon as possible. A health official in Aizwal said that Bhushan has agreed to provide Monoclonal Antibodies Cocktail (MAC), an expensive but highly-effective Covid drug for free, reported IANS. This drug costs Rs 1,20,000 per set.
Out of the Rs 14,744.99 crore that was sanctioned by the Modi government under the Emergency Covid Response Package, Mizoram has given Rs 44.38 crore. “The first installment of Rs 19.94 crore has been released and the remaining amount will be released as soon as an expenditure detail of the first installment is submitted," the top official told IANS.

The Mizoram government delegation includes the state’s Lok Sabha member C. Lalrosanga, Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena, OSD to Chief Minister, Rosangzuala, and the state’s Resident Commissioner in Delhi, Amjad Tak. The Lok Sabha MP, Lalrosanga, in a statement said, “Mizoram is looking for active support from the Centre beyond the sanctioned funds. The delegation also requested a team of experts to be sent to Mizoram as soon as possible to examine the ongoing Covid crisis faced by the state."
According to state officials, Mizoram is reporting 1,500 cases of Covid-19 daily. It has so far reported 93,660 positive cases and 309 fatalities. Covid-19 data analysis shows that at least 7% of the total population of Mizoram has been affected by the virus so far.
As per IANS, there are 15,815 active cases, while 77,536 people have recovered from Covid in the state.
