Centre Approves CBI Probe Into Death Of Mahant Narendra Giri After UP Govt's Request
Narendra Giri Death: Following a request from the state government, The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification for a CBI probe in the case.
The centre, on Friday, gave its approval for a CBI probe in the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri. He was found hanging at Baghambari Math in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Following a request from the state government, The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification for a CBI probe in the case.
Giri was the President of India's largest organization of sadhus. The sudden demise of a revered spiritual leader under mysterious circumstances sent shockwaves across the country. Police had earlier, recovered a handwritten suicide note from the Math which contained the names of three people including Mahant Narendra Giri’s disciple Anand Giri.

"On the instructions of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a probe by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has been recommended in the incident pertaining to the sad death of the chairman of Akhara Parishad Mahant Narendra Giri," the Uttar Pradesh's home department had said on Wednesday.

The UP Police had formed an 18-member SIT to probe the death of the seer. The team has already detained a disciple of Giri from Haridwar.
A post-mortem was conducted to determine the cause of death and reports are still awaited. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said all aspects related to the death are being investigated and the guilty will not be spared.
