Mumbai: A 30-year-old man committed suicide by jumping before a running local train at suburban Dahisar railway station as other passengers stood by in shock, police said today. CCTV cameras installed at the railway station on the Western line captured the chilling video of the man jumping onto the track as the Churchgate-Virar comes hurtling at platform number 1 at 8.13 AM. The incident took place on March 30, but came into public notice when the video went viral. A case has been registered at Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) in this regard. "The deceased, Mukhtar Sheikh, who was wearing a white shirt and black pants and holding a paper in his hand, was waiting at the platform along with other people. "When the train approached the station, he suddenly jumped before the train and died on the spot," an official of Borivali GRP said. Sheikh, who was a painter by profession, resided in Borivali, police said.
