CBI Vs CBI: CVC hands over probe report to SC; Court defers hearing till Friday

The top court had allotted 14 days’ time to the CVC to probe the bribery charges which came as an aftermath of an internal feud between CBI Director Alok Verma and its Special Director Rakesh Asthana.

New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission on Monday completed its probe in the bribery case against the top two bosses of the country’s biggest investigation agency- The Central Bureau of Investigation; and handed over  three copies of its report on the same to the Supreme Court. The court after receiving the report has deferred the hearing in the case till Friday.  The report was handed over to the apex court in a closed envelope, as directed by the court itself. A report by interim CBI head Nageswar Rao has also been handed over to the court. The report contains details of the major actions taken by him during his interim charge. As per CVC sources to ABP News, “the CVC is unable to find any proof of exchange of money”.  If this is true, the ball is in the SC’s court to decide the further course of action. The top court had allotted 14 days’ time to the CVC to probe the bribery charges which came as an aftermath of an internal feud between CBI Director Alok Verma and its Special Director Rakesh Asthana. Both Alok Verma and Asthana were sent on leave till the probe in the case is complete. The court had given interim charge of CBI to M Nageswar Rao, who was kept from making major decisions on the behalf of the agency. Also all the powers of Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana were also snatched. The Congress on the other hand has been lashing out at government over Alok Verma's ouster and has been stating the same as "unconstitutional".
