'Brij Bhushan, Nirav Modi, Mallya Also Modi Ka Parivaar?': Congress Hits Back At BJP's Campaign

This move came after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having no family.

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its 'Modi ka Parivar' campaign, asking the party whether fugitive businessmen Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya were also considered part of "Modi ka Parivar."

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera brought up the issue during a press conference after several BJP leaders added "Modi ka Parivar" to their names on social media profiles, reported PTI.

This move came after RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having no family.

Addressing the press conference, Khera asked, "Were not Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Pawan Singh, Nirav Modi, and Vijay Mallya also Modi ka parivar?,” as per the PTI report.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP MP, and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, faces allegations of sexual harassment of women wrestlers, while Pawan Singh, a Bhojpuri singer-actor, recently withdrew as the BJP Lok Sabha poll candidate from West Bengal's Asansol seat amid allegations from Bengal's ruling TMC of producing crude songs that depict women in a vulgar manner.

“(PM Narendra) Modi has completed 10 years in office and his associate Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has completed 24 hours in Odisha. We want to ask the PM what action has been taken on the chit fund scam and mining scam in Odisha,” Khera said ahead of the prime minister’s visit to the state, the PTI report added.

Khera claimed that no CBI probe was conducted in the mining scam despite recommendations made by a commission.

He accused the BJP of aiding the ruling BJD in Odisha and questioned the nature of their relationship. “Earlier, there was an invisible relation between the two parties, but now, it has become visible to all,” he said.

The Congress spokesperson pledged strong action against those involved in the chit fund and mining scams once the Congress comes to power. He alleged that valuable land and forests in Odisha are being sold to outsiders, leading to dissatisfaction among the people.

“Valuable land and forests of Odisha are being sold to outsiders. The rights of the people of the state are being provided to outsiders. One non-Odia man became king of the state and has been roaming in choppers,” he alleged without naming anyone, the PTI report added.

The Congress leader claimed that the Congress's vote share in Odisha would significantly increase in the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections, causing concern for PM Modi.

“Young boys and girls are committing suicide due to unemployment. Two farmers are committing suicide every hour. To whose family they belong?” he asked.

The BJP and BJD are yet to respond to the Congress's allegations.
