AAP Says CM Kejriwal's House Vandalised, BJP's Tejasvi Surya Detained During Protest

Kejriwal had said that the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri should post the film on YouTube amid the demands of making the film tax-free in Delhi.

New Delhi: BJP Yuva Morcha National President and MP from Bangaluru Tejasvi Surya was detained by the Delhi police on Wednesday for protesting outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

Surya, along with the workers of the BJP youth wing, was protesting against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s comments on ‘The Kashmir Files’ in Delhi Legislative Assembly last week.

Kejriwal had said that the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri should post the film on YouTube amid the demands of making the film tax-free in Delhi.

However, the protest march was stopped by the police after 50 meters with the usage of barricades.

The protest turned into a violent one when the protestors broke the barricading done by the police and marched forward. As a result, the police had to use water cannons on the protestors.

After the use of water cannons, the protestors sat on the road while Surya was detained.

The Kashmir Files is a fiction film based on the sufferings of the Kashmiri pandit community after the exodus from Kashmir in the early 1990s.

As per the Delhi police, nearly 40-50 BJP party workers have also been detained. If there would be any communication from the CM's residence, then the police will take legal action in the matter.

Meanwhile, the official Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party said that security cameras and barriers were broken outside CM's residence and the main gate was also vandalised by the protestors. The AAP also accused the Delhi police of supporting the protestors.

DCP North Sagar Singh Kalsi said 70 people have been detained and legal action would be taken against them.

"Today, at around 11:30 am onwards, a dharna was started by around 150-200 protestors of BJP Yuva Morcha outside CM residence against his remarks in Delhi Vidhan Sabha regarding the movie Kashmir Files," ANI quoted Sagar Singh Kalsi as saying.

"At around 1 pm, some protesters breached two barricades and reached outside CM House where they created ruckus, shouted slogans. They were carrying a small box of paint from which they threw paint outside the door. A boom barrier arm also found vandalised as also a CCTV camera," the DCP said.
