Uttar Pradesh: Bharatiya Janta Party MLA from UP’s Kaushambi seat Sanjay Gupta on Friday made a controversial statement saying ‘90% of electricity stealing is done by Muslims’. The statement came after a complaint was filed in the electricity department against one of his relatives. Angry from the same, the MLA called the official and lashed out at him. He further threatened him that he would take a stern action against the officer and would teach him a lesson. The MLA further said “If you want to nab electricity thieves, then visit Muslim areas as the maximum theft is done by them”. He further questioned that “why only my relatives and Hindus are troubled over the same”. The minister didn’t stop there, he further stated as a probe being done against Hindus over stealing electricity as wrong and sought to stop the same. He further threatened that if officers don’t stop the practice; he would teach them a lesson and would force them to get a transfer. Sanjay Gupta’s audio tape goes viral: The telephonic conversation between the officer and MLA, where he can be heard issuing threats is now going viral on social media and has been shared multiple times. Not only this, after threatening the officer, MLA went to electricity office on Thursday and sought data on religious basis. This created a lot of ruckus in the electricity department office as the officers started raising slogans against the MLAs demand and the threat issued to the officer by MLA.
