Bihar: 4 girls missing from a shelter home in Patna; probe underway

PATNA: Months after Bihar's Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case shocked the entire country, four women have been reported to be missing from another shelter home in the state's capital. A case has been registered and police have initiated a search operation to trace the women, who went missing from a shelter home here. "A case has been registered and we are going to recover the four missing women soon," Manu Maharaj, SSP Patna said adding that the police probe is underway. The matter comes months after the alleged sexual abuse of 34 girls at a state-funded shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur which led to a public outcry. The Muzaffarpur horror came to the fore following a social audit by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) from Mumbai that pointed at the sorry state of shelter homes run by NGOs in Bihar. A total of 44 girls were staying at the shelter home when a social audit team of the TISS  visited the facility. The girls had complained about sexual harassment. Medical examinations had later revealed that 34 of them were raped. An FIR was lodged on May 31 against 11 people, including Brajesh Thakur, who was running the shelter home. The probe was later taken over by CBI and so far 17 people have been arrested. The Supreme Court had termed as "horrible" and "scary" details placed before it by CBI about the investigation into the case.
