BIG day for Indo-Pak relations; VP Naidu lays foundation stone for Kartarpur corridor in Gurdaspur
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed India's decision to send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri.
New Delhi: Monday is an important day pertaining to Indo-Pakistan relations as Vice President Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for the much awaited Kartarpur corridor, which is linked to the emotions of crores of Sikhs. The ceremony which took place in Gurdaspur; also had CM Amrinder Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Harsimrat Kaur, Punjab CM Amrinder Singh and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu present.
"I must tell what Punjab CM said, that we can't allow terrorism and can't let innocents die, this isn't going to help, it's not the way; it must be understood. That’s why let this be the start of this great event" VP Naidu said.
The foundation stone of the corridor will be laid by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on November 28 in Pakistan. India is sending two union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and SS Puri. CM Amrinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu had also received invitation from India but, Punjab CM had declined the invitation; but Sidhu had accepted it.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed India's decision to send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, Radio Pakistan reported.
Qureshi termed India's decision as a "positive response to Pakistan's move", it said.
The corridor, once built, will give Indian pilgrims easy access to the shrine.
The India-Pakistan ties nose-dived in recent years with no bilateral talks taking place. The ties between the two countries had strained after the terror attacks by Pakistan-based groups in 2016.
