Battle officially begins: Opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar files her nomination

New Delhi: Opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar on Wednesday filed her nomination in the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi among others. Earlier, while speaking to ABP News channel she said-"My fight is with an ideology, not with any person". On Tuesday, it was learnt that she will start her campaign from Sabarmati Ashram located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A Dalit candidate, she will face another Dalit candidate, Ram Nath Kovind who was nominated by ruling NDA. Interestingly, Kovind has already started his Presidential campaign from Uttar Pradesh. In a separate but related development, Meira Kumar on Monday made her debut on social networking site Twitter, days after her nomination as the opposition presidential candidate. Kumar made a few posts on Twitter and had around three thousand followers. "Eid Mubarak! Joy, peace and prosperity to all," she said through her handle @meira_kumar. In the other tweet, Kumar asked people to follow her on her official Facebook account for updates on the presidential election. There are 313 million active Twitter users, of which 82 per cent log in through mobile phones. (With inputs from PTI)
