Battle Against Terrorism Must Be Fought On All Fronts: EAM Jaishankar At ‘No Money For Terror’ Conference

The minister said that the world need to rise above political divides to address the issue of terrorism.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said that the battle against terrorism must be fought resolutely on all fronts, in all situations and at all places. He made this remark while addressing the ‘No Money For Terror’ conference on Saturday.

He said, “World needs to rise above political divides to address this peril. The battle against terrorism must be fought resolutely on all fronts, in all situations and at all places.”

Talking about recent trends for terror funding, he said that terrorist groups have found new ways to finance their activities.

He said, “Recent trends suggest that terrorist groups have found new ways to finance their activities, appears these groups are quicker to embrace & adopt new anonymous financial & payment technologies.”

“Fake charities and fake non-profit organisations have become frequent sources of terror financing,” ANI quoted the minister as saying.

Jaishankar also talked about oraganising briefing on ‘Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts: Global Approach to Counter Terrorism – Challenges and Way Forward’ in December under India’s Presidency of the Security Council.

He tweeted, “Next month, on 15 December 2022, under our Presidency of the Security Council, we will organize a briefing on ‘Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts: Global Approach to Counter Terrorism – Challenges and Way Forward’.”

“The challenge, however, is that while the bad guys think global and lateral, the good guys still think national and vertical. Essential to encourage a “whole of the government” approach at home and a “whole of the world’’ approach abroad,” he added.

He explained that this can be achieved through “sharing real-time information, exchange of evidence, witness statements, adopting effective procedures for bringing them to justice through prosecution or extradition, freezing of their financial assets, preventing their movement through their territories, preventing supply of all types of arms and related material to them, and providing full cooperation to the states where or against whose citizens terrorist acts are committed.”

EAM Dr. S Jaishankar highlighted several reasons behind the growing scope, scale and intensity of the terrorist threat in recent years. It included advancements in technology that terrorists access more readily than law enforcement & security systems, resurgence of radical ideologies & their more seamless spread, among others.

Highlighting India’s commitment towards global security he said, “India, along with like-minded partners, will remain committed and energetic to highlight the existential threats that terrorism poses to global security and stability. We will shine the spotlight on this peril – and all those involved in nurturing and furthering it.”

He said that the 'No Money for Terror' platform aims to broad base the Big Fight against Terror Financing. “When it comes to terrorism, we will never look away, we will never compromise and we will never give up on our quest to ensure justice,” he added.
