'Avoid Non-Essential Travel': India's Travel Advisory For Nationals In Myanmar Amid Escalating Violence

It also advised Indians living in Myanmar to register themselves with the Embassy of India in Yangon.

New Delhi: Amid escalating violence between anti-junta groups and government forces in Myanmar, India on Tuesday released an advisory where it advised its nationals to refrain from visiting the neighbouring country.

It also advised Indians living in Myanmar to register themselves with the Embassy of India in Yangon.

Sharing the advisory on platform X, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi advised Indian nationals in Myanmar to avoid any non-essential travel.

"In view of the evolving security situation in Myanmar, all Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel. Those already living in Myanmar are advised to take precautions and avoid travel to the regions affected by violence," the advisory read.

The Ministry of External Affairs also asked Indian nationals living in Myanmar to register with the Embassy of India in Yangon.

Earlier on Thursday, Arindam Bagchi had raised concerns over fighting between Myanmar's military and anti-junta groups near the Indo-Myanmar border and urged for a resolution of the situation through constructive dialogue.

"We are deeply concerned with such incidents close to our border. Our position on the ongoing situation in Myanmar is very clear. We want secession of the violence and restitution situation or resolution of the situation through constructive dialogue. We reiterate our call for the return of peace, stability, and democracy in Myanmar," Bagchi had said.

ANI had reported that a recent airstrike by the Myanmar army in the bordering areas along the Indo-Myanmar border forced close to 5,000 people to enter the Champhai district of Mizoram as refugees.

There are around 160 families from Myanmar now residing in Lipui in the Zokhawthar area, according to ANI.

Since the current conflict in Myanmar started in 2021, a large number of citizens from the neighbouring country have taken refuge in India. According to the UN, the intensified fighting in Myanmar since last month has displaced about 90,000 people, reported PTI.
