New Delhi: India on Wednesday night has carried out surgical strikes targeting “launch pads” for terrorists across the Line of Control (LoC), the Army said on Thursday. Across the LoC, seven terror launch pads were targeted by special forces of the Indian Army during the 'surgical strike'.
Here we are telling you what exactly 'surgical strike' means:
- A surgical strike is a military attack.
- Its results in, was intended to result in, or is claimed to have resulted in only damage to the intended legitimate military target, and no or minimal collateral damage to surrounding structures, vehicles, buildings, or the general public infrastructure and utilities.
- An example of a surgical strike is precision bombing carried out by aircraft.
- During the initial stages of the 2003 Iraq War, the bombing of Baghdad by US forces, (known as Shock and Awe) is an example of a coordinated surgical strike.
