Assembly elections: Likely to be held in February, UP may witness voting in 6-7 phases

New Delhi: Voting may take place in the state assembly elections in February 2017 in most of the poll-bound states of the country, said sources. Counting of ballot most likely would take place in March. To be specific, in the first or second week. In Uttar Pradesh, the state assembly election may take place in six or seven phases. In the rest of the states like Goa, Manipur or Punjab, the elections are likely to be held in single phase, said sources. However, the most keenly watch state assembly election will be that of the most populous state of the country, Uttar Pradesh. Firstly, because the state has the power to shape general election of 2019 and secondly because of the Yadav family feud. In Punjab, also the AAP will try to wrest power from BJP-SAD alliance. There is also a new political party, Awaaz E Punjab, formed by ex-BJP member Navjot Singh Sidhu which will try its luck. In Goa also BJP will try to retain power. In Manipur, however, Congress is in power and will definitely try to hold it anyhow. ALSO READ: UP election 2017: After Akhilesh aides dropped, CM makes public his own list of candidates
