Assam Election Results 2021 Live Updates: Assam along with states/UT like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pudducherry is set to know the results of its assembly election as the five-year term of the state assembly is set to expire on May 31, 2021.
"As per the trends, it is clear that Bharatiya Janata Party will form the government in Assam," Sarbananda Sonowal told ANI. The majority mark in Assam is 64. The BJP is looking to create history in the state by becoming the only non-Congress government to win consecutive terms.
However, ABP C-Voter Exit Poll projections suggest that the contest with Congress this time is a close one.
The Congress which was superseded by BJP in 2016, formed a grand alliance with perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and four other parties.
The BJP had fought the 2016 Assam polls in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) registering a decisive victory.
The state underwent polls in three phases starting March 27 followed by April 1 and April 6.

After winning a fifth consecutive term in Assembly polls, BJP leader and senior Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that he did not want to talk about who would become the next chief minister of the state as the decision will be made by the party's central parliamentary board.
The BJP had projected the then union minister Sarbananda Sonowal as its chief minister before the assembly polls in 2016, but the ruling party did not announce any name for the top post this time. Speculations were rife that Sarma would be the new CM.
"I do not want to talk about this. Our parliamentary board will decide about it," Sarma told reporters when asked if he would be the next chief minister.
