Maximum New Cases Are Asymptomatic In Delhi, Situation Under Control: CM Arvind Kejriwal

The number of cases rose sharply by 3,500 in a week’s time, but Delhi chief minister assured there is nothing to fear until the rate of deaths increase.

New Delhi: Even as the national capital has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases since May 17 when the capital has eased the lockdown measures, the number of cases rose sharply by 3,500 in a week’s time, Delhi chief minister assured there is nothing to fear until the rate of deaths increase. “The situation is still in control in the capital and maximum new cases are asymptomatic,” stressed Arvind Kejriwal Delhi chief minister on Monday. There has been some increase in the cases but our aim is to keep the death rate low. We are trying to control the cases so that hospitals are not burdened with the sudden spike in the cases, he stated. “At present there are 13,418 Covid-19 cases in Delhi until Sunday. Of which, 6,540 has recovered and 6,617 are under treatment while 261 deaths have been reported so far,” said Kejriwal. In an ordered issued on Sunday, around 177 private hospitals in the capital have been asked to keep 20 per cent beds reserved for patients, which will make 2,000 extra beds available in the private sector. Government hospitals have 2,500 beds available. This move will now enable patients to get treatment in private hospitals as well. Of 250 ventilators in the capital, only 11 cases are on ventilators as of now. “In total around 4,500 beds are available including private and government hospitals, of which 2,500 beds are unoccupied,” informed the CM. All the above measures have been taken to tackle any spike in the cases. The government is trying to bring a system where a patient will come to know where beds are available in hospitals. This will help the patient to reach the hospital where the treatment is available instead of shifting from one hospital to another.
